The Blood Of Dawnwalker Using Older Unreal Engine 5 Version, But Devs Have Solutions For Stuttering Issues

The Studio Is Using Out-Of-The-Box Unreal Solutions!

Story Highlight
  • The Blood of Dawnwalker is using an older UE5 version, suggesting potential optimization issues at launch.
  • However, developers are employing unique Unreal solutions to address performance issues, such as stutters.
  • The game is also already playable from start to finish, despite some mechanics still being worked on.

Many gamers are excited about The Blood of Dawnwalker, with Rebel Wolves even planning to turn the RPG into a franchise if it sells well. Its development has been progressing smoothly so far, but the studio has just confirmed a worrying detail that is raising red flags.

The game’s creative director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, confirms that The Blood of Dawnwalker is using an older version of the Unreal Engine 5. The studio is unable to switch to the latest Unreal Engine 5.6, which offers over 30% better performance in CPU-bound cases.

Why it matters: The Blood of Dawnwalker, using an older UE5 version, is worrying many gamers due to potential stutters. The engine is notorious for being hardware-intensive and for causing performance issues in games.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a smaller RPG compared to The Witcher 3.

In an interview with Wccftech, Mateusz explains that Rebel Wolves is familiar with stuttering issues that can occur in The Blood of Dawnwalker due to the older UE5 version. Therefore, it is using ‘out-of-the-box’ solutions to ensure top-notch performance.

We are using out-of-the-box Unreal solutions, but we also have a lot of our own code that our programmers basically rolled on top of the Unreal code.

These custom solutions are precisely why Rebel Wolves is unable to switch over to Unreal Engine 5.6. Moreover, transitioning to newer UE5 versions during development can be challenging, as it may break code unexpectedly.

We have these custom solutions that might not be compatible.

The game features a protagonist with unique vampiric powers.

The Blood of Dawnwalker will hit the beta stage soon; the game is in a playable state from start to finish. That said, Rebel Wolves is still working on many features, like visuals and combat.

On a side note, The Blood of Dawnwalker is aiming for the same quality as The Witcher 3, despite being a shorter game.
