- The studio rebranded earlier this year to match fans’ growing expectations from the game and the devs.
State of Decay 3 has been on everyone’s radars ever since it was initially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2020 event. Since then, the studio has gone through a noticeable rebranding, and it also appears to have increased the number of developers working on the zombie survival game.
A new update by Undead Labs suggests that around a hundred devs are developing the State of Decay 3, a massive number compared to the original game’s 20-team size.
Why it matters: The State of Decay 3, having around a hundred developers, suggests that Undead Labs is going all out to ensure the sequel will stand out and meet fans’ inflated expectations.
During the official 2024 dev diary released by Undead Labs, studio head Phillip Holt explained the abrupt growth of State of Decay 3’s team size. He clarified that it was done to meet the developers’ growing ambitions and satisfy fans’ expectations.
“State of Decay 2 shipped with a company size of about 60, 65. Here we are today, we’re double that size or greater.”
The rest of the dev diary mostly focuses on the studio rebranding and the logo change.
For those not in the know, State of Decay 3 is expected to launch sometime next year exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Despite some lingering concerns, news about State of Decay 3 boasting a hundred devs has only reassured fans regarding its future.
