Starfield Composer Says Gamers Weren’t Ready for the RPG, Calls It a Future Classic

'I Believe People Were Just Not Ready For It'

Story Highlight
  • Starfield composer says it didn’t do as well as expected because gamers were not ready for the RPG.
  • He believes the game will become legendary in the future, like other Todd Howard projects.
  • The title is expected to get a new wave of attention with its upcoming PS5 launch and 2.0 update.

Starfield launched to a pretty mixed reception. While many players felt impressed by its sheer size and scale, a lack of depth and emergent gameplay made many grow tired of the project quite quickly. This phenomenon was unlike past successful Bethesda releases.

However, the game’s composer believes the players were simply not ready for Todd Howard’s advanced vision at the time of its release. He argues that the open-world experience will soon reach legendary status that is enjoyed by the likes of Skyrim and Oblivion.

Why it matters: Starfield composer implies it’s due to players that the RPG failed to become legendary at launch. He argues players will eventually come to realize their fault, and it will become a future classic.

Starfield
Starfield was criticized for its lack of depth and barren worlds.

In an interview with RPG Site, Inon Zur clarifies that people just did not resonate with Todd Howard’s vision when Starfield came out. He praises the developer, calling him the ‘most creative and invigorating human beings in the industry.’

When Starfield released, I believe people were just not ready for it.

The composer believes Todd is sticking to his new vision, and players will come to accept it even if it takes time. As the core philosophy behind the RPG won’t be changing in the future.

Starfield will eventually become something that will be legendary. I have no doubt. It’s just a matter of time.

Regardless, many gamers found the composer’s take to casually brush aside all the genuine criticisms that Starfield has faced since its launch.

Starfield 2.0 Update
The game is expected to get a huge update soon.

Once you experience the story, the open world and gameplay loop eventually become repetitive and unenjoyable for many players.

While the Starfield 2.0 update is expected to turn the ship around, Todd Howard has bluntly said that players who did not originally enjoy the RPG won’t suddenly find themselves fawning over it after the new improvements.

Do you think Starfield will eventually become one of Bethesda’s legendary RPGs like Skyrim, or is the praise unfounded? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
