- Stalker 2 is out for just 2 days and has already sold over 1 million copies.
- It has even outsold Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which has now been out for almost a month.
- GSC Game World’s title is reportedly showing good engagement on Game Pass too.
GSC Game World has finally released Stalker 2 after so many delays. While it has had a decent reception, many have divided opinions because the game is plagued with performance issues. However, it has still sold 1 million copies in just a week.
Notably, in just two days, Stalker 2 has already sold more copies than Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which has been out for almost a month.
Why it matters: Both Stalker 2 and Veilguard were highly anticipated titles, but despite being only available on Xbox and PC, the former has managed to dominate sales in a remarkably short span.
According to data from Gamalytics, while Stalker 2 has already surpassed 1 million sales Dragon Age: The Veilguard is still somewhere around 650K (not exact confirmed figures). Furthermore, Stalker 2 is available on Game Pass as well.
Stalker 2 is not only doing well on Steam but also has huge engagement on the subscription service. As big of a franchise as Dragon Age is, the same was expected of Bioware’s title.
But the game has been constantly under fire for being woke. Gamers have also called out its weird dialogues and character designs. It also failed to get any major nominations at the Game Awards despite high expectations.
A former Xbox executive says that the low sales will even raise layoff concerns. The game must have a pretty high budget, and it doesn’t seem it will sell enough copies to recoup the development costs.
Nonetheless, GSC Game World will be glad with the numbers. They have even outlined a new update that will go live next week that aims to fix the majority of bugs and performance issues with Stalker 2.
