- Stalker 2 runs poorly on the Xbox Series X in performance mode, but one particular area pushes the hardware to its limits.
- The game outright freezes for more than five seconds here, dropping to 0FPS.
- Once it returns to normal, the first-person shooter still hovers around 40FPS in this area.
Stalker 2 launched with its fair share of technical issues last week. The first-person shooter suffered from stuttering, numerous bugs, crashing, and more. Performance is also far from ideal on Xbox.
According to analysts, Stalker 2 typically runs at around 40-50FPS in performance mode on the Xbox Series X. However, the game can even drop as low as 0FPS on this hardware.
Why it matters: AAA releases are typically very well optimized for consoles due to the fixed hardware. This is even more true for exclusive titles.
As reported by Digital Foundry, towns that feature heavy NPC density in Stalker 2 push the CPU particularly hard. This is evident by the sharp frame rate drops on PC, which can even see the Ryzen 7 7800X3D dropping as low as 40FPS.
Unfortunately, the Xbox Series X has it much worse in such instances. The analyst notes that entering one specific town causes the first-person shooter to freeze for a full six seconds on the Xbox Series X.
Looking at the frame rate, the game nosedives to 0FPS at this point, taking over six seconds to recover and stay around 40FPS. This is, without a doubt, one of the worst instances of a modern game running on Microsoft’s latest hardware.
The game freezes for six seconds. 0FPS for six seconds. It is brutal.

While GSC Game World is hard at work on future patches, the game’s current state certainly raises a few eyebrows. The fact that Stalker 2 performs so poorly on the console is quite shocking, considering it was optimized specifically for the two Xbox systems.
