Hopes More Games Will Focus On Pure Fun Gameplay!

  • The Saber Interactive CEO is glad to see everyone enjoying Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.
  • He confirmed that the team intended to offer an addictive and classic experience with the game.
  • Matthew Karch hopes more studios will follow a similar approach in the future.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has become yet another surprising release of 2024. Bringing the Warhammer franchise to a broader audience, this spin-off has dominated the Steam top-sellers chart for a while and has become one of this year’s biggest releases.

Explaining this success, the CEO of Saber Interactive recently commented on one of Asmongold’s videos. The popular streamer praised the Space Marine 2 experience, and the CEO added that this quality was only achievable due to the team’s focus on old-school and fun gameplay.

Why it matters: Modern games often appear bloated and unfocused, so Saber Interactive’s departure from this trend is quite refreshing.

Matthew Karch Comments On Space Marine 2’s Success via Twitter

Matthew Karch emphasized that Space Marine 2 was always meant to be a throwback to the simpler times of gaming.

It’s been said multiple times that this title is reminiscent of a third-person shooter from the PS3 or Xbox 360 era. This is mainly due to the simple yet satisfying gameplay loop that keeps players hooked.

While Space Marine 2 may appear shallow to some, its beauty lies in the simplistic and gory combat system. As CEO Matthew Karch says, many modern games strive to offer complex experiences on both narrative and gameplay fronts. This is not the case with the team’s latest offering.

When we signed the deal to make Space Marine 2, all I wanted was a throwback game.

The CEO also discussed his time at Embracer, stating that the publisher often tried too hard with its messaging in various projects. This was considered one of the main reasons for the Saints Row reboot’s failure.

He concluded the comment by stating that he hopes to see the industry return to old-school experiences.

Matthew Karch noted that both Black Myth: Wukong and Space Marine 2 could lead to the beginning of this reversion since both recent releases were so well received for their core strengths.
