Sony’s New PS5 Slim CFI-2116 Version Makes Sound Practically Non-Existent

Sony Has Nearly Perfected The PS5 Slim After All These Revisions!

Story Highlight

  • The new European versions of the PS5 Slim are noticeably quieter than earlier models.
  • Testing revealed that they reached a maximum of only 38.2 dB and a minimum of 34.7 dB.
  • Sony has now nearly perfected the PS5 console with improved cooling, a smaller size, practically inaudible sound, and fixes for issues such as liquid-metal leakage.

The PS5 has witnessed increased sales in recent years, especially since Sony finally resolved the issue of not being able to build enough consoles to fulfil demand. Since then, we’ve seen the arrival of the considerably more expensive PS5 Pro and, of course, the PS5 Slim, which replaced the original.

The gaming giant continues to improve its console offerings, this deep into the lifecycle. Their latest development is making the European PS5 models noticeably quieter, which we assume is due to the PS5 Pro’s cooling system.

Why it matters: Sony’s dedication to continuously improving its console lineup shows that it cares for its fans, which is why the PS5 lineup is nearing 100 million sales.

Noise Test Conducted On The New PS5 Slim

In a test conducted by user “modyfikatorcasper” on X (formerly known as Twitter), the new PS5 Slim models generated a maximum of only 38.2 dB, which was underload, while the quietest state was at 34.7 dB.

These noises were recorded 30 cm from the console for 5 hours, and the results show that the new PS5 model is quieter than an average PC. However, placing the console horizontally does result in a slight increase in loudness, going from 34.7 to 36.1 decibels.

Compared to the last generation, the PS4 and PS4 Pro were both notoriously loud, exceeding 50 decibels under load. Sony made an incredible improvement in noise levels with the PS5, but in order to accommodate the new cooling system, the new console had to be significantly larger.

As such, several revisions have been made over the years, reducing the size and weight of the PS5’s cooling system, even before the launch of the Slim version, which marked a significant improvement in both areas.

Now, Sony has almost perfected the PS5 Slim, thanks to the CFI-2116 cooler and liquid metal applied to the grooves, which improve cooling, reduce noise, and make the console smaller, too. It’s a significant improvement over previous applications, and there’s no risk of leakage.
