Sony PlayStation’s game pass might be coming soon as several PS4 and PS5 customers have reported strange incidents involving the renewal of PlayStation Plus, which in some circumstances seems to include a membership to PlayStation Now. In contrast, it appears to misreport the service’s name in others.

These adjustments are probably related to the upcoming introduction of Spartacus, Sony’s new subscription service, which Bloomberg first reported on.

The existence of Spartacus has yet to be confirmed by the Japanese giant, but journalist Jason Schreier has spoken about it several times in recent months. Other well-known faces such as Nick Baker of XboxEra, Jeff Grubb of GamesBeat, and a slew of insiders and journalists have stated that they are aware of the project and that an announcement is imminent. Sony recently pulled PS Now prepaid cards from select outlets, adding concerns.

On Wednesday at 2:28 pm, a user called “GoldLordPaddock” posted on NeoGaf, claiming that their subscription had disappeared and is now shown as two PS Plus memberships.

“I just renewed my Playstation subscription through the app yesterday and paid the $60.00. When I logged into my PS5 I went to the subscription tab and it said im good until 3/1/2023. When I backed out, it said i had the PS NOW sub. I clicked on it and it had the same date when it expires 3/1/23” –GoldLordPaddock

Again, this might be an error, but it appears to be a common problem, as other forum members who have both PS Plus and PS Now subscriptions have reported modifications to their accounts, which can be seen in the “Subscriptions” area. By signing in, the PS Now subscription appears to have vanished in some situations, while it remains in others but has been rebranded “PS Plus.”

It could be a simple error or technical problem or a simple bug being faced by the users, but all of this can also paint a bigger picture which shows that Sony is preparing for a big announcement in a  short time. We all expected Sony to come up with an answer to Xbox Gamepass quickly. However, nobody thought that Sony would be this fast to respond. If these predictions are correct, that means that Sony can announce the launch of “Project Spartacus” any day now.

On the Other hand, PlayStation Plus is not going away anytime soon since it generates much too much revenue for the company. It appears that PlayStation Now will be replaced, or at the very least improved and that certain tiers will include PlayStation Plus. To be clear, none of this has been confirmed, but that might change in the near future.
