Looking To Be A Strong GOTY Contender!

Story Highlight
  • Silent Hill fans praise the game for being near-perfect, along with a fresh start that the series desperately needed.
  • Those who have played the game praise its exploration, dialogue, and psychological horror elements.
  • Overall, the game is looking to be a solid GOTY contender.

We’re officially less than 2 months away from the release of Silent Hill f, the first new mainline entry in the franchise after 13 long years. The latest entry is poised to bring fresh new changes to the 20+ year old franchise with a brand-new setting of a rural Japanese town set during the 1960s.

Things are looking optimistic for Silent Hill f as the first previews for the game are now out, which are calling the game near perfect and a solid GOTY contender.

Why it matters: Marking the return of the franchise, fans have high expectations from Silent Hill f. Fortunately, these previews suggest that Konami will be able to live up to the expectations and may even go above and beyond.

Previews call Silent Hill f the most distinct entry in the franchise yet, one that still feels familiar and stays true to its roots. While rooted in horror, the game leans more into psychological elements.

As previously reported, Silent Hill f will also altogether ditch firearms in favour of melee combat. That said, don’t expect any less confrontations as the game is more action-oriented than Silent Hill 2 Remake.

The game also leans more into exploration in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, which otherworldly creatures have overrun. As the story progresses, the puzzle sequences will also reveal the lead, Hinako’s childhood traumas, as she is forced to live through them again to survive.

Previews call the game more disturbing than anything, and by its dialogue choices, the game reveals the inner monsters of humanity, too. The game does best at putting players through uncomfortable situations via its narrative and dialogue options with Hinako and the surviving members of Ebisugaoka.

Portraying a victim of bullying and household trauma, Silent Hill f explores controversial themes that may even take a toll on the player. That said, these same tropes have made Silent Hill f a strong GOTY contender, as suggested by the previews.
