However, after seeing mundane results in its gaming portfolio for the last decade, the conglomerate has decided to chase its former renown by working on dormant fan-favorite franchises. These initiatives are just the beginning, however, as many Sega studios are already brewing highly anticipated titles.

Now, a new report suggests that Sega’s higher-ups are seemingly on board with aggressively reviving old and idle gaming series to become a global powerhouse again.

In a new interview with Diamond Online, executive Shuji Utsumi clarified that Sega is aiming for the stars by aggressively reviving fan-favorite IPs with new titles. He also argued that only releasing titles locally impacted their expected sales output, so a sharp multiplatform strategy is now on the cards. You can also expect to see Sega’s gaming characters appear in more TV shows and other media.

By aggressively expanding IP (intellectual property) overseas, we aim to become a top company in the global market.

Sega has already started reaping the fruits of this new strategy, with recent financial results suggesting a highly successful 2024 in terms of generated sales and ratings.

Many studios under Sega have announced new entries, with most returning to dormant IPs that fans once held beloved. However, Sega also impressed at The Game Awards 2024 by announcing new franchises, like Yakuza Dev’s Project Century.
