The tech industry is super volatile right now due to the AI boom, which has led to massive shortages and price increases. RAMs and SSDs now cost a fortune, and the situation is tipped to worsen this year.

According to a new report, Samsung and SK Hynix have reportedly told their customers that DRAM prices will increase sharply in Q2 2026. The demand is at its highest, and the supply isn’t enough to meet global demand.

Why it matters: While there were some reports that RAM prices are somewhat stabilizing, this indicates that it won’t be for much longer, as two of the biggest manufacturers have already rung alarm bells.

The report states that Samsung and SK Hynix have warned their customers about another incoming price hike in Q2. Some analysts have predicted that the overall price increase could reach 130% this year.

Moreover, it is revealed that Samsung Electronics‘ current production capacity can only handle about 60% of the volume due to the continued increase in DRAM requirements. The data centers are increasing, so is the demand.

The company’s customers only care about securing as much volume as possible and don’t care about the prices, so manufacturers are free to hike them as much as they want. Some analysts have warned of even higher prices.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem we’re getting rid of this crisis any time soon. Recently, Phison’s CEO predicted that the situation could persist through 2030 and could even go on for a whole decade.
