- The ROG Xbox Ally X officially launches on October 16 for $999.
- Since Xbox ran out of pre-order stock, scalpers are asking for well over $2000 for the console online.
- Other retailers like Best Buy still have stock available for potential buyers, so there is no need to accept the scalpers’ demands.
Xbox finally made its upcoming handhelds available to pre-order recently, and to fans’ surprise, the handheld quickly sold out on the official Xbox store. Despite the high price and supposedly niche appeal of the hardware, it seems many are rushing to buy the console.
Interestingly, this phenomenon has even motivated scalpers to come out of hiding again. The ROG Xbox All X, in particular, has become the target of scalper attention.
Why it matters: Scalping in the gaming industry is no longer as prevalent since many people have shown much greater patience than in the past. However, it’s always interesting to see scalpers trying to nickel and dime customers when a new product arrives.
Over on eBay, multiple ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds have been listed for exorbitant prices.
For context, Asus and Xbox settled on a $999 MSRP for the console, but eBay listings ask for well over $2000 in most instances. In fact, the most expensive listings ask for as much as $2500.
The most interesting part about this situation is that scalpers seemed to have jumped the gun. While Xbox did indeed run out of stock on its official website, retailers like Best Buy still have the ROG Xbox Ally X available for pre-order.
The current situation is a far cry from the console and GPU debacle of 2020 or 2021, so scalpers are unlikely to find much success selling the handheld at these ridiculous prices.
The ROG Xbox Ally X officially launches on October 16, and there is still plenty of time to find a retailer to pre-order the console. Needless to say, there’s no real need to give in to scalper demands at the moment.
