Can Also Forced System-Wide Through A Toggle!

Story Highlight
  • Sony has finally made the PSSR 2 update official for the PS5 Pro with Resident Evil Requiem.
  • It is a visible upgrade that narrows down the quality difference between PSSR and DLSS 4.5.
  • They have also added a system-wide toggle to force it into older games as well.

Sony has finally made the much-awaited PSSR 2 official, and it starts with Resident Evil Requiem. PS5 Pro is undisputedly the best console to experience the title based on the crisp visuals, and it’s apparent why.

The first iteration of PSSR, launched with the PS5 Pro, had all sorts of issues from blurry visuals to bad performance. But testing proves PSSR 2 is a worthy upgrade, as it bridges the gap between Sony’s tech and DLSS 4.5.

Why it matters: Resident Evil Requiem runs at upscalted 4K 60 FPS with Ray Tracing on the PS5 Pro, with no visible flaws, highlighting how big of an upgrade the generation of the tech is compared to the original.

In Digital Foundry’s testing, PSSR 2 is much closer to the visual fidelity of DLSS 4.5 and FSR 4, which is a huge step up. Technically, DLSS 4.5 is still superior in finer details, but Sony’s tech has somewhat caught up now.

Compared to FSR 4, it is superior in certain regions, especially when handling ghosting. The former was also reported to be softer in certain scenarios. Overall, it’s a big upgrade that now justifies buying a PS5 Pro.

Compared to its older generation, the difference is day and night. The first-gen used to make games so look so soft to a point that they looked better on the base PS5 compared to the Pro console.

Additionally, Sony has also added an option to force PSSR 2 in older games where the visuals looked soft and blurry like Silent Hill f. The tech has gone from being the console’s weak point to now one of its selling points.
