More PlayStation and Xbox Price Hikes Coming Soon, Warns Analyst

Nintendo Also Expected To Raise Switch 2 Prices!

Story Highlight
  • An analyst has commented on recent console price hikes.
  • He believes the PS5 will likely become even more expensive in the future.
  • This also means that other consoles will follow a similar pricing trend.

Sony is the latest gaming giant to raise console prices after following in Nintendo and Xbox’s footsteps. Although fans are just now coming to terms with the new pricing, it seems they have not seen the last of prices going even higher.

According to a prominent analyst, more price hikes are expected in the future.

Why it matters: Console hardware used to see significant discounts multiple years into its lifecycle. In fact, many consoles were sold at up to half their price at a similar point during the generation in the past.

PS5 Xbox Series S|X
Both Consoles Could Cost As Much As $600 Soon

Popular analyst Matt Piscatella recently discussed PlayStation’s decision to raise PS5 prices across the board. He commented that this price hike was inevitable and is unlikely to be the last time Sony makes such an announcement.

Although the analyst did not directly say much about Xbox or Nintendo, it is implied that they will follow suit in a similar manner. In fact, Nintendo could be the next to raise prices since the Switch 2 is still being sold at its original price of $450.

The US tariffs are largely to blame for hardware prices moving in the opposite direction this generation, but gaming giants are also beginning to realize the limitations of the traditional console model.

This is why many are attempting to maximize profits on the stagnant hardware sales, with the new pricing serving as an extension of this strategy. Anyhow, the analyst’s prediction sounds like a safe bet given the events of the last few years.

Nintendo Switch 2
A Switch 2 Price Hike May Be Next

This also means that now may be the best time for those looking to buy a new PS5, Xbox Series S|X, or Nintendo Switch 2 for future releases. Some have even suggested waiting for the PS6 and next Xbox console at this point.

With games like GTA 6 coming next year, demand for console hardware will surge to never-before-seen levels for this generation. As such, PlayStation and Xbox could pursue another price hike while using GTA 6 as a safety net.

What do you think about this prediction? Do you think it’s best to buy a console now to avoid future price hikes? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
