S-Game has only confirmed a PS5 launch for the title so far, but the team does not appear to have an exclusivity contract. Unfortunately, an Xbox launch seems unlikely since a developer recently rejected the platform and called it unneeded.

Why it matters: The Souls-like genre is incredibly popular across all platforms, including Xbox. Therefore, this information will likely disappoint Xbox users who hoped to play Phantom Blade Zero eventually.

According to a report, the team behind Phantom Blade Zero recently explained its decision to skip the Xbox platform.

This information came from ChinaJoy 2024, where PlayStation presented both Black Myth: Wukong and Phantom Blade Zero. The Japanese gaming giant’s involvement immediately led to speculation about potential exclusivity.

However, both Chinese studios quickly shot down the speculation. Black Myth: Wukong has already been confirmed for Xbox, though Game Science has announced an unspecified delay for the Xbox release.

According to the developers, PlayStation is helping the studios with testing and marketing, but neither of the teams is contractually obligated to exclusivity. They are said to have the final say on what platforms to support.

Elaborating further, an anonymous developer behind Phantom Blade Zero had a very interesting comment to make about Xbox. The developer highlighted PS5 and PC as the most promising platforms and ignored Microsoft’s consoles.

While this is not the first time such comments have been made, the developer’s words were certainly very direct. It’s no secret that Xbox has never been too popular in Asia, but the gaming giant has shown interest in exploring the market recently.

Unfortunately, it seems that Microsoft has more work to do since various developers are not quite convinced by its current efforts.
