- OneXPlayer has announced its new flagship portable console, the OneXfly Apex.
- The console’s main feature is its AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU, which can run at a full 120W when docked and connected to power.
- This gives the console the performance equivalent of a laptop with an RTX 3070 or RTX 4060 graphics card.
OneXPlayer announced the OneXfly Apex, the company’s latest flagship portable console. This console’s main selling point is that it promises to be the first to make its APU, the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, capable of functioning at full performance at 120W. This would give this console and its GPU the performance of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or RTX 4060 laptop.
Obviously, we’re talking about a “Dock” mode in which the console must be linked to power, as it consumes up to 120W, making it anything but portable. So a hybrid concept, similar to the Nintendo Switch 2, is being sought.
So if you are away from home, the APU’s maximum consumption is limited. However, once you reach home, you can enjoy games at a higher resolution and with better performance.
About the specifications of the OneXfly Apex. It is build around an 8-inch IPS panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and support for VRR. The console’s Full HD resolution suggests that the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU will perform well, especially with external screens.
The AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 features a strong 16-core, 32-thread CPU running at 5.10 GHz. It is built on the brand’s latest Zen 5 architecture and uses TSMC’s 4nm lithography process. The CPU is accompanied by a strong integrated AMD Radeon 8060S graphics card with 2,560 Stream Processors at 2,900MHz. Available memory options include 32, 64, and 128 GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
The OneXfly Apex offers expandable storage using the new Chinese standard, the Mini SSD. This is three times faster than the Switch 2’s MicroSD Express, while also being more affordable.
The OneXfly Apex boasts of using a water-cooling system. Water-cooling consists of a radiator, a water pump, and fans. However, in the marketing world, copper heat pipes are already marketed as liquid cooling.
Inside the heat pipes, liquid creates an evaporation and condensation circuit, keeping the water flow going. Therefore, it’s understandable that this is precisely what we’re examining. At best, we may witness a massive vapour chamber, which may be the surprise.
There won’t be a battery to power this because the GPD Win 5 removed the battery from the equation to increase cooling, leaving the console’s battery external. So we’re not sure if they’ll opt to imitate the movement here.
The console’s specifications include Harman Kardon speakers and customizable triggers. So we’ll have to wait for the formal announcement to learn the rest of the details.
