- Nintendo has officially started raising Switch 2 prices globally due to changing market conditions.
- The console is now $40 more costly in Saudi Arab with demand through the roof.
- More price hikes in other regions are expected due to new tariffs imposed by the US government.
Despite the lack of hype and an unconventional rollout, the Nintendo Switch 2 became the biggest console launch ever. The handheld’s demand is still through the roof, and Nintendo is struggling to fulfil it.
Amidst the console shortage, Nintendo has also raised the price of the Switch 2 globally. This price effect resulted from changes in global market conditions, as per Nintendo’s official market partner in Saudi Arabia.
Why it matters: The Switch 2 already costs more than its predecessor. Accounting for the console shortage and an even higher retail price, it would be challenging for gamers to obtain the console.
According to the AIC, Nintendo’s official third-party distributor, the price of the Switch 2 has increased from SAR 1999 ($533) to SAR 2149 ($573). The $40 difference is still huge, already considering that the handheld was $33 more expensive than regular retail.
This price effect applies only to the Switch 2 and not to its accessories.
Furthermore, it’s also speculated that the handheld’s price will continue to change throughout the rest of the regions sooner or later after the US government imposes new tariffs.
Meanwhile, fans aren’t happy with their purchase a month after the Switch 2’s launch, claiming that it doesn’t justify the higher price tag.
Microsoft has already raised the prices of the Xbox Series consoles, with the Series X costing as much as $600. Sooner or later, Sony is also expected to follow suit with their PS5 consoles.
The original Switch has also seen a price hike in recent times due to the same changing market conditions.
