- The Mass Effect TV show is going through rewrites to help it reach a wider audience.
- The scripts are being rewritten in a way to make them more accessible for non-gamers.
- Amazon’s show is reportedly set after the events of the games.
TV shows and movies based on games have had a mixed reception over the years. We’ve had stuff like Fallout that is universally adored by the fans, and then we have others like Resident Evil and Halo that completely diverge from the source material.
A Mass Effect TV show is currently in the works at Amazon, and fans are excited for it. However, the show is reportedly going through major rewrites to make it more accessible for non-gamers, which could be an issue.
Why it matters: As mentioned earlier, the shows that diverge from source material aren’t received too well. Another example of that is The Witcher adaptation; if Mass Effect show does the same, it might not sit well with the fans.

A report from The Ankler reveals that the Amazon show is very near to being greenlit for production, but they are currently waiting for rewrites to make the show easier to understand for people who haven’t played the games.
So, basically, they are targeting a much wider audience than just the fans of the games. This doesn’t normally end well, but the show is still in very early phases, so it will be too early to judge it for now.

A few details about the show have been revealed, like it’s been set after the events of the games, so sticking to the source material was already a huge question. Nonetheless, Amazon has a solid track record with Fallout, so expectations are there.
