The Mafia franchise is set to receive a new entry in the coming years, with the game serving as a prequel to the first game. Rumors claim the title is set in late 19th-century Italy, but not much has been officially confirmed.
Previously, Kotaku reported that Hangar 13 was leading development on the Mafia project in Brighton. A new job listing from the developer’s Brighton studio confirmed that Mafia 4 is in pre-production.
Hangar 13 is hiring for a Tools Engineer in Brighton, England. The job listing states:
“Create and maintain tools for an unannounced multiplatform game currently in pre-production using Unreal Engine 5.”
Considering Kotaku’s report, the unannounced project appears to be the Mafia prequel.
The Mafia franchise has always had a dedicated fan base that has grown to love its atmosphere and stories. But the game is currently in pre-production, so fans might have to wait a while to try the game finally.
While the listing does not say much else, it confirms that the game will be multi-platform. This is also not too surprising. Furthermore, the job ad verified Katoku’s report on Unreal Engine 5 being used for the title.
Last year, 2K also officially confirmed the development of a new Mafia project. The gaming giant stated that the title was a few years away and chose to leave more details for a later date.
The statement from 2K appears to align with the job listing and Kotaku report, making perfect sense that the next Mafia game is a few years away.
