- Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director says they hired consultants for the game.
- They wanted to make sure that the game wouldn’t hurt any religion or minority.
- The director said he was afraid he’d be fired if the game didn’t do too well.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is one of the best releases of this year, with a massive 88 score on Metacritic. While the title received universal acclaim, it has had its fair share of controversy as well, especially for not being diverse enough.
Now, the game director says that the studio hired a bunch of different consultants so as not to offend anybody. He was afraid that the journalists would harass the team if things got too out of hand.
Why it matters: We’ve seen games face heavy criticism, especially because at times they can hurt sentiments, as was seen with Assassin’s Creed Shadows for the depiction of Japanese culture.
Talking to the Insider podcast, the Co-Founder of Warhorse Studios and Creative Director of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Daniel Vavra, stated that he was afraid to get fired due to the backlash, so they had to hire consultants to help them.
For every religion, minority, any group of people, we had consultants – we sent them the script and asked if there were any mistakes. Their advice was useful
– Daniel Vavra
He said that they had consultants for every religion, minority, and any other group of people. They were sent copies of scripts, from which they advised changes that were then made to the final version of the game.
However, even with this, the game had a lot of backlash. The situation became so bad at the start that Vavra asked people not to buy the game if they had any issues. It still was a massive success, selling over 2 million copies in just 2 weeks.
