- Hollow Knight Silksong has already had a record-breaking launch on Steam.
- The game has hit 500K concurrent players on the platform mere hours after its release.
- At this rate, it could achieve 1 million players over the weekend.
Hollow Knight Silksong launched less than 24 hours ago, and it didn’t take long for the game to break all major storefronts. The game also reached 100K players mere minutes after its Steam release, but this was far from its peak on the platform.
In fact, less than four full hours after its release, Hollow Knight Silksong has more than tripled this player count.
Why it matters: This type of success is rare for any big release, let alone for an indie title that arrived nearly a decade after its predecessor.
Hollow Knight Silksong currently stands at a peak of over 500K concurrent Steam players. The game achieved this player count within four hours of its release, marking one of the most successful indie titles on the platform to date.
In fact, Hollow Knight Silksong could become Steam’s biggest indie success story when all is said and done. The game is also the platform’s best-selling release at the time of writing.
Team Cherry has yet to announce an official player count or sales number, but it does not seem far-fetched to assume that at least 1 million total units have been sold already. After all, Hollow Knight Silksong’s excitement was so palpable that many games were delayed to clear a path for this release.
Although figures from other platforms are not currently available, the title has likely performed similarly everywhere else. Additionally, the current buzz surrounding this release may have even boosted Game Pass numbers for this month.
Because the title has hit 500K players so quickly, it could achieve 1 million players in the coming days. Needless to say, all signs point to this release becoming 2025’s biggest Steam title soon.
