Hideo Kojima’s OD Gets New Trailer At Kojima Productions Tenth Anniversary

Expert Verified By

A Kojima Horror Game Is Finally Happening.

Story Highlight
  • OD just got its first trailer following the teaser at TGA in 2023.
  • The trailer follows Sophia Lillis’ character going into an abandoned building and trying to light candles.
  • The game currently has no release date and stars Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.

Hideo Kojima is arguably the most recognisable name in the gaming world, and his reputation is only gaining more traction as he continues to release genre-bending experiences like Death Stranding 2. The auteur is one of the only developers in the industry trying to innovate and push the medium forward.

Kojima has a myriad of projects in the works, and by far the most exciting among them is OD, his upcoming collaboration with Xbox Game Studios that just got its first major trailer.

Why it matters: Considering how Kojima’s last horror game got cancelled abruptly, it’s nice to see that OD is still in the works amid fears it would suffer the same fate.

At the tenth anniversary event for Kojima Productions, the Japanese developer gave us a glimpse of OD, with Phil Spencer also in attendance. The 3-minute trailer starred Sophia Lillis going into a building and trying to light up candles that turned into worms.

Previously, only a minute-long concept teaser had been released for OD with no CGI or gameplay. But this trailer did delve a little bit into the game’s horror setting while also giving us cryptic messaging that hardcore fans will be trying to solve.

Furthermore, Sophia Lillis’ face was only visible for a couple of seconds in the trailer. Still, fans are already calling it the best face model ever built in a video game engine. As of now, we aren’t sure if the OD footage is in-engine, but if it is, we are definitely in for a horror classic from Hideo Kojima.

OD was stalled for a little bit last year, as per Kojima, and there were even rumors of cancellation. Hence, it’s nice to see proof of this anticipated video game finally coming to light, and considering how enticing Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 was, players are right to look forward to OD and Physint.
