- A dataminer has found Halo on the Retail API for PlayStation, implying that the FPS is headed towards another major platform.
- Currently, there is no sign of a Switch 2 release in the API.
- Xbox boss recently teased a Halo Combat Evolved Remake for 2026, with a proper reveal coming later this year. A PS5 announcement is also expected by then.
With Xbox’s multiplatform strategy, many first-party titles were expected to head towards PlayStation. However, nobody expected key IPs such as Gears of War and Forza Horizon to join the catalogue of games headed to the rival platform.
To complete the trio of major Xbox IPs, a datamine leak suggests that Halo is the next IP headed to PlayStation.
Why it matters: With the three major Xbox IPs now on PlayStation, gamers are wondering why they should even buy an Xbox console in the first place. It seems that Microsoft’s console strategy is no longer feasible for them.
Grunt.API is a famous account known for posting Halo-related content. Recently, he came across an interesting discovery while datamining.
Halo was listed as an API evidence, suggesting that a PlayStation port is underway. Currently, there is no word on a Switch 2 port, even if the handheld is capable of handling AAA titles.
Although it is not confirmed which Halo title this datamine refers to, Phil Spencer recently teased a Halo: Combat Evolved Remake for next year, marking the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
A full-fledged reveal is expected by the end of this year during Fall, as per a reliable leaker. The franchise is expected to witness new beginnings after the failure of Halo Infinite.
Developer 343 Studios has also rebranded to Halo Studios and has shifted to Unreal Engine from their in-house Slipspace engine for the next title.
