Half Assassin’s Creed Shadows Team Never Worked On A Game Before, Says Franchise Producer

"They Think Shadows Is The Worst Thing Ever"

Story Highlight
  • The executive producer of the AC franchise revealed that Half team working on Shadows is inexperienced.
  • He further says that the team thinks Shadows is the worst thing they have ever seen.
  • Given the controversy surrounding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed, this is going to hurt the game even more.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, before the actual reveal, was highly anticipated among the fandom. However, right after the first, a massive controversy was sparked, and the game still hasn’t recovered from it.

In fact, it was delayed to next year as Ubisoft wanted to polish it even more to prevent even more hate. The company has been facing a lot of backlash lately, which isn’t surprising.

Fans now might have another reason to continue the hate chain as the executive producer of the franchise revealed half of the team working on Shadows has never worked on a game before.

Why it matters: Giving younglings an opportunity to work on a game so they can learn is something that should be really appreciated. However, Assassin’s Creed is a massive franchise, so veterans should be more involved in such games.

Marc-Alexis Côté, the executive producer of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, revealed during a Q&A session at the XDS24 conference that half of the team working on the game have no experience developing a game.

One of the things that I’ve noticed since the pandemic is that we have a lot of juniors in our teams. Probably half the team that’s building Assassin’s Creed is building a game for the first time.

That is not it, he further states that the team thinks Shadows is the worst thing they have ever seen. Despite being inexperienced, the team thinking Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the worst thing is clearly a red flag.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delay Hurt Ubisoft’s Market Value

Ubisoft giving young developers opportunities is actually a good thing. However, given the scale of AC Shadows and its controversy, a team consisting of veterans should take the helm.

That said, we hope the young developers can learn a lot from this game and be proud of the final product.
