GTA 6 Delay Spells Bad News For PC Players; Pushing Port To 2028

Don't Expect GTA 6 On PC Anytime Soon!

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 was just delayed to Fall 2026 earlier today.
  • The game is still being developed for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X, so the anticipated PC version will likely arrive in 2028.
  • Rockstar historically takes between 12-20 months to release its PC ports, so GTA 6 should be no different.

GTA 6 has been the industry’s most anticipated release since its official reveal in 2023. Unfortunately, the game was just delayed for the second time today, following its first delay a few months back.

According to Rockstar Games, the title is now set to launch worldwide on November 19, but this is only for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X gamers. The latest delay means that PC gamers may not even see GTA 6 till 2028.

Why it matters: PC gaming has exploded over the last five years, so this market is bigger than ever.

Historically, Rockstar has taken anywhere from a year to two years to port its games to PC.

Looking at the last two releases, GTA 5 arrives on PC exactly 19 months after its initial debut, while Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on the platform 13 months after the PS4 and Xbox One launch.

GTA 6 will likely follow the same pattern and require at least an additional year of optimization. However, because Rockstar is taking longer than usual with this particular release, the PC port may require more time as well.

GTA 6 will be the first Rockstar title to make use of ray-tracing and various other technologies out of the gate. The PC port is also expected to expand on these technologies, and Rockstar is known to do a great job when it comes to optimization.

Modern PC ports present the challenge of more upscaling options, a greater range of hardware configurations, and even technologies like Frame Generation, so GTA 6 could end up requiring more time than Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 5 on PC.

However you put it, the game is unlikely to show up on the platform before 2028. There have even been rumblings of another delay, at which point, the PC port would be pushed back even further.

GTA 6 Is Now Scheduled For Fall 2026

With such a long wait ahead of PC gamers, it will be interesting to see whether GTA 6 ends up being worth the anticipation. The game is expected to run at 30FPS on all consoles, including the PS5 Pro, so the frame rate alone should be a major advantage to playing on PC.

Additionally, Rockstar has been known to add features like GTA 5’s first-person mode as extras for newer versions, so something similar could be done for GTA 6.
