- A God of War Metroidvania game has been rumored for a very long time now.
- New rumors suggest it could be the first on-release multiplatform game in the series.
- The game could be showcased at the upcoming State of Play on February 12.
The God of War franchise has been synonymous with success. Almost every release has been critically received, making it one of the most beloved game franchises ever. Soon, we could be getting a new entry, but apparently not a mainline game.
There have been rumors of a God of War 2.5D Metroidvania game for the longest time. It is expected to be announced at the upcoming State of Play, but more importantly, it could be the first major game in the series to skip exclusivity at launch.
Why it matters: Analysts and experts have claimed that multiplatform is the way forward to tackle increasing game budgets. So, while Sony isn’t going into it as aggressively as Microsoft, it is now focusing on other platforms too.

Leaker NateTheHate says that when the rumors of the God of War Metroidvania emerged, there were plans that it would be a multiplatform release. While he isn’t sure if that become a reality, there is a solid chance.
Launching the game on multiple platforms would make sense to help reach a wider audience. Since the LEGO Horizon game launched on Switch, the God of War title could be a really great fit for the Switch 2 as well.

This could make the title the first God of War release to skip PlayStation exclusivity at launch. However, none of this is confirmed for now, so take this with a grain of salt, but if it’s indeed real, we’ll likely find out tomorrow.
