Upcoming God of War Greek Game Pushed Back To 2026, Says Insider

Next Year Should Be Huge For God of War Fans!

Story Highlight
  • Santa Monica is said to be working on a 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off based on God of War.
  • This game is set in the Greek era, but reports indicate that its release has been delayed until 2026.
  • The growing scope of this game’s development may have caused the delay.

Rumors of a new God of War project have been making the rounds for months, but a reliable leaker recently suggested that a 2.5D Metroidvania game set in the Greek era was being worked on at Santa Monica Studio.

Many expected this title to be one of the headliners at Sony’s latest State of Play, but the game was nowhere to be seen. Following this no-show, the same leaker states that the game has been delayed.

Why it matters: God of War is PlayStation’s biggest IP in the modern era, making each entry a massive deal for the gaming giant and its audience.

This information comes from Jeff Grubb, one of the industry’s most reliable leakers. According to Grubb, the Greek God of War project has been pushed back to 2026.

Although the leaker did not provide many details, he had previously suggested that the game was set to launch later this year. It appears that Santa Monica Studio requires additional time for the project, resulting in this delay.

I heard it was pushed into 2026 as well.

Fortunately, an official announcement could still arrive sometime this year. Perhaps the project has grown in scope since development began, leaving Santa Monica with no choice but to pursue a delay.

Kratos Hasn’t Been To The Greek Era In More Than A Decade

Anyhow, a new God of War release should be a big deal for PlayStation fans in 2026. Because the gaming giant is now attempting to launch at least one first-party title each year, this release should also help it fulfill this target for the next year.

Elsewhere, Santa Monica is expected to be working on a brand new IP alongside this project. The studio has been away from the limelight since 2022’s God of War Ragnarok, so fans should stay tuned for a few announcements over the next year or two.
