- The Witcher 4 game director, Sebastian Kalemba, says CDPR cannot say whether Geralt will be playable.
- Some gamers have interpreted it as a tease, claiming that Geralt’s role might still be undecided.
- CDPR might not be ready to reveal that he is playable right now, but take it with a grain of salt.
The Witcher 4 has become the talk of the town ever since the eventful reveal during TGA 2024. Some fans were surprised and upset by Ciri being the new protagonist. However, there may still be hope for those who miss playing as Geralt.
CD Projekt Red has recently given quite a hesitant response when asked whether Geralt would be playable, claiming that no answer can be given right now. It has led some gamers to interpret the words as a possibility.
Why it matters: The coy response implies that CDPR is currently undecided on whether Geralt will be playable. Or, they might not be willing to reveal that he is playable for now.
In an interview with Eurogamer, the game’s director, Sebastian Kalemba, said that Geralt is in Toussaint in Henrietta’s mansion. So, he will surely be present in The Witcher 4, and CDPR may still be considering Geralt’s exact role for The Witcher 4.
but we cannot tell you if it’s going to be playable or not right now. But yeah, he will appear. He’s going to be present in The Witcher 4.
As always, it’s best to take the reluctant response with a grain of salt, as it does not explicitly confirm or deny the possibility.
The Witcher 4 is still a few years away, as it has barely entered full production. A PC-only release is being considered first—and devs might skip out on the Series S altogether because of hardware limits.
Do you think the coy response by CD Projekt Red means that we can play as Geralt in The Witcher 4, or is it reaching too far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forum.
