FromSoftware Might Have Trouble Adapting To PvP Games, Says Former PlayStation Boss

Currently Working On The Duskbloods And Elden Ring Nightreign!

Story Highlight
  • Former PlayStation boss says FromSoftware could find PvP development challenging.
  • The reason is that the studio head Miyazaki isn’t a big fan of the genre.
  • The studio currently has two multiplayer games in development: Duskbloods and Elden Ring Nightrein.

FromSoftware is unarguably one of the best studios in the gaming industry. The Japanese gaming giants have offered huge hits one after the other, starting from Dark Souls to Bloodborne to Elden Ring, and more.

Now, the studio is pushing towards new multiplayer titles with its latest Nintendo Switch 2 title, The Duskbloods, and Elden Ring: Nightreign. However, a former Sony boss thinks adapting to PvP could be a bit challenging for the studio.

Why it matters? This is the first time FromSoftware is jumping into this genre, and while their ability is nothing of any doubt, fans and some critics are still skeptical about how their upcoming release will turn out.

Talking to the Easy Allies podcast, former PlayStation executive, Shuhei Yoshida, talked about how the move towards multiplayer games could trouble FromSoftware a bit. One of the major reasons is, Miyazaki himself isn’t a big fan of PvP.

I think it’s a new challenge for (FromSoftware), to design game for multiplayer, Miyazaki-san isn’t necessarily a big fan of PvP games

FromSoftware is currently working on The Duskbloods, a PvP title for the Switch 2

While the overall development could be challenging as this is a new venture, most people wouldn’t be surprised if the game turns out to be amazing, based on the talent FromSoftware has. Also, the genre has a huge fan base.

Nonetheless, this also doesn’t mean that the studio is moving away from single-player titles. Miyazaki confirmed that despite developing multiplayer titles, the studio is still focused on working on great single-player titles in the future.
