If it wasn’t already confirmed at this point, the Bethesda boss has reiterated that The Elder Scrolls 6 isn’t coming out anytime soon. Announced in 2018, the project has been in development for 7 years, with no release in sight.
In a recent interview, Bethesda’s head was asked if he thinks GTA 6 or The Elder Scrolls 6 would come out first, to which he replied that he is hoping for the former. Rockstar’s flagship title is currently set for a November 2026 release.
Why it matters: It has been so many years since the last mainline Elder Scrolls game came out, and fans have been yearning for more, but Bethesda is taking its sweet time with the development.
Power Unlimited asked Todd Howard about the two big franchises’ release window at the recent red carpet for Fallout season 2. He said he believes GTA 6 will come out next year and before The Elder Scrolls 6.

This clearly suggests the earliest we can expect the game now is 2027, but it could be even later, based on the little to no information we currently have. Earlier this year, a job listing suggested it isn’t even in an alpha state yet.
Nonetheless, Howard recently asked fans to believe in the studio and be patient. The game is rumored to have a Hammerfell setting, familiar to fans of the franchise. We do hope we get further information on the title next year.
