Kojima Has Set The Bar For Other PlayStation Studios To Meet!

Story Highlight
  • Death Stranding 2 has been praised for its outstanding visual presentation on the PS5.
  • The game impresses with its facial detail, environments, shadows, and more.
  • These elements come together to make for one of the most gorgeous titles on the PS5 to date.

Death Stranding 2 is due for launch tomorrow, marking the most exciting week of June for many gamers around the globe. Ahead of its release, the game was said to be very ambitious in multiple ways, and reviews suggest that Hideo Kojima has delivered yet another genre-defining release.

The game also excels in the technical aspects, making it one of the finest examples of a current-gen title. In fact, analysts believe Death Stranding 2 has set a new bar for PS5 exclusive titles.

Why it matters: Most of PlayStation’s core studios have released cross-gen titles for the PS5, leading to solid albeit underwhelming visuals and technical elements so far.

As per Digital Foundry, Death Stranding 2 pushes the bar for what is capable on the PS5. It does so by focusing on a single platform and foregoing a last-gen release, leading to jaw-dropping results.

Elements like lighting, shadows, weather, and environmental effects have received a major upgrade compared to the original Death Stranding, resulting in more than a few gorgeous backdrops throughout the game.

Shadows are also sharp and clear, with screen space shadows adding further details to this part of the game. Character models mark yet another major improvement in Death Stranding 2.

The skin shading is a major step up in the sequel, and micro details like skin pores highlight immense detail in each character model. Other elements, such as hair rendering, have been similarly upgraded, bringing the many characters of this world to life with a natural appearance.

All of this is accompanied by stellar animations that portray character emotions and movements with exquisite detail. When combined, these components result in potentially the most striking visuals presented on the PS5 console to date.
