After so much anticipation, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 is finally out, and it’s every bit as weird and fabulous as you’d expect from a Kojima Productions title. It’s so good that it’s already being nominated for the biggest gaming accolade of the year.
According to many reviews, Death Stranding 2 is already a solid contender for the game of the year award for 2025. It has also received a very positive reception and a solid 90 on Metacritic.
Why it matters: While expectations from the sequel were high, most weren’t expecting it to soar this high, especially considering how weird the entire game is, but it seems Kojima has outdone himself this time.
Death Stranding 2 has managed to top the original in almost every possible way. It has achieved photorealism in graphics that have never been seen before. The story, mechanics, and everything else are also top-notch.
Many reviews call Death Stranding 2 a PS5-defining experience and a solid GOTY nominee. While, at its core, it’s still a walking simulator, the improvements are so substantial that they elevate the experience to a whole new level.
The original was also a decent title, but it had several shortcomings. The sequel builds on them and then takes it further. It is, in all ways, a game that redefines how great visuals can be, while still being optimized.
However, to get the hang of Death Stranding 2, you must play the original first. It is also currently only on PS5, so it’s a shame that PC and Xbox players won’t be able to experience it, at least for some time.
