Story Highlight
  • Dead Space creator wants to make a new Alien game.
  • While he’s open to a licensed game, Glen Schofield wants to make his own work.
  • Schofield already has over 100 alien designs in Midjourney and wants control over the entire creative process of the project.

Glen Schofield has one of the most impressive portfolios in the industry, known for creating the Dead Space and Callisto Protocol games, although the latter fails to hold a candle to his earliest work.

Now, Schofield wants to try something new while staying afloat in the horror sci-fi genre. He has expressed his interest in making an Alien game, even though he’d prefer to create something original.

Why it matters: The Alien franchise began in 1979 and over the years has expanded into multiple entertainment mediums such as cinema, video games, and even graphic novels. As such, there’s no better candidate to handle such an important IP than Glen Schofield.

Talking to PC Gamer regarding his interest in an Alien game, Schofield said:

Let’s say I took on a licence, which I really don’t want to do; I want to make my own.

As much as he’d love to prefer an original creation, he’d still want to go ahead with the project even with a license.

Let’s say somebody came to me and said, ‘We’re going to give you the Alien license. Immediately I could show you — maybe 100 different aliens I’ve made in Midjourney over the last two years…So yeah, I would love to make an Alien game.

However, for Schofield to work on an Alien game means that he’ll have to own the entire creative process behind the title, which is non-negotiable from his end. He further stated that he won’t be able to make a great game unless it’s his vision, which will include a ‘130%’ effort from him.

The last AAA game in the franchise was 2014’s Alien Isolation, which is confirmed to be getting a sequel. However, the franchise is strong enough to support a Scofield game in addition to an Isolation sequel.
