Cyberpunk 2077 Will Never Fade Away!

Story Highlight
  • Cyberpunk 2077 could receive new content on its 5th anniversary on December 10.
  • CD Projekt Red dropped a cryptic Tweet announcing the game and other characters’ birthdays.
  • Even five years after the launch, the studio continues to support the RPG.

When Cyberpunk 2077 was first released five years ago, no one could have anticipated how successful it would be. The RPG was plagued with bugs and optimization issues, making it unplayable at that time, but the studio pulled off a miracle.

CDPR recently confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 35 million copies and is now its main source of income. So, naturally, they are still investing in it as they’ve teased more new content on its 5th anniversary.

Why it matters: Initially, the studio said it was done with the game after the Phantom Liberty DLC. Still, it has since been so successful that they’ve continued to support it despite the sequel already in development.

Cyberpunk 5th Birthday
CDPR has dropped a cryptic Tweet hinting at new content for Cyberpunk 2077

The studio posted on X to mark the game’s 5th birthday, along with the birthdays of 2 other characters from the DLC, Solomon Reed, and So Mi Song. At a glance, it looks like a simple message, but CDPR teases new content cryptically

Fans are convinced that Reed and Songbird’s birthdays represent something coming with a future update. Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 35 million copies faster than The Witcher 3, so this is a big moment for the game.

The game is now CDPR’s primary source of income.

We can’t really say for sure what the update will bring, but a full-fledged DLC is obviously unlikely. However, there could be new, minor quests involving both the mentioned characters, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Nonetheless, it is great to see that CDPR is continuing to give Cyberpunk 2077 the love it deserves. It now stands in the elite category of RPGs, and the expectations from the sequel are already skyrocketing.
