- Crystal Dynamics is developing a Lord of the Rings game in addition to the Tomb Raider titles.
- The game is being funded by the ADIO, which has poured $100 million into the project so far.
- Reports also reveal that the game would compete with Hogwarts Legacy.
Crystal Dynamics is taking the lead on the next Tomb Raider IP with two new games in the works, one including a remake of the first and another mainline entry titled ‘Catalyst,’ which will be the series’s first open-world entry.
In addition to these two games, the studio is now working on another major franchise. The latest report reveals that Crystal Dynamics is working on a new Lord of the Rings game.
Why it matters: The Lord of the Rings has tons of potential in the gaming world, but unfortunately, recent attempts haven’t been particularly successful, aside from the Middle-earth games. Hopefully, things will be different under Crystal Dynamics.

Insider Gaming reports that Crystal Dynamics is developing the new Lord of the Rings game to compete with Hogwarts Legacy. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office has already invested $100 million into the game.
If the game is competing with Hogwarts Legacy, expect it to be a proper RPG on a similar scale, where you would be able to build characters and do similar activities but that’s just speculation from our end.

It’s also important to note that this is different from the other Lord of the Rings game that Warhorse Studio is working on. Knowing how lore-rich the IP is, it’s no surprise that multiple different games are under development.
As for the release, expect this project to take some time, as Crystal Dynamics is full throttle on the Tomb Raider games right now. Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is releasing this year, while Tomb Raider Catalyst is aiming for a 2027 release.
