Was Set During The Greek Saga And After The Events of God of War 3!

Story Highlight
  • Leaked screenshots from Bluepoint’s canceled God of War game have surfaced online.
  • It was supposed to be a multiplayer set in the Greek setting from early games.
  • The title was reportedly supposed to take place after the events of God of War 3.

God of War is one of Sony’s most prominent and essential franchises, thanks to its sheer scope and fan base. Earlier this year, a report revealed that the company had canceled multiple live service titles, including one from its beloved franchise.

Screenshots from the canceled God of War multiplayer game have leaked online, showcasing the game’s setting. Interestingly, it was a change of scenery that returned Kratos to his roots from the Greek-era games.

Why it matters: While the franchise is huge, Sony learnt the hard way that live-service games aren’t the best choice in the current industry, leading to the cancellation of various multiplayer projects.

In some screenshots shared by Mp1st, we can clearly see the temples and buildings that are very reminiscent of the Greek saga. We can also see armories with weapons and shields, specifically built for multiplayer.

The armories reportedly belonged to the Greek god of the underworld, Hades, who could’ve been an essential part of the game. The title was apparently set after the events of 2010’s God of War; however, it is unclear whether it would’ve been canon.

God of War Egypt
Despite the canceled multiplayer, multiple God of War games are still in development.

There are also influences from the Norse sagas, as well as in some statues. Nonetheless, the game could never see the light of day, as Sony might’ve feared another catastrophic failure

But the good news is that the franchise is still very alive and well. There are reportedly a couple of games in development, a Metroidvania, and the next mainline entry is allegedly set in ancient Egypt
