- 2027’s Call of Duty will introduce a new subfranchise.
- The game is set in the 1990s to early 2000s, an era the series hasn’t taken place in yet.
- Currently, Zombies isn’t planned, and movement is also being worked on.
The Call of Duty franchise hit rock bottom this year, following multiple flops, and Black Ops 6 was the final nail in the coffin. As the future of the once-hailed military FPS looks grim, a new report finally hints at something positive for Activision’s magnum opus.
2027 will mark new beginnings for the FPS series by finally introducing a new subfranchise. Sledgehammer Games is taking the lead on the project, which is said to take place during the 1990s and early 2000s, an era Call of Duty has yet to explore.
Why it matters: It’s been a while since a new subfranchise was introduced, and fans have had enough of Black Ops and Modern Warfare games. This news will make fans a bit optimistic about the series’ future after such a rough recent time.

As per TheGhostOfHope on social media, who is a reliable leaker, 2027’s Call of Duty title will feature an all-new cast of characters. This is good news for those who’ve had enough of Mason, Woods, Reznov, Soap, and others who keep reappearing in new titles, game after game. Omnimovement will still be present, but with the removal of Tac Sprint to balance out things.
The report further reveals that Pick 10 is also in the discussions to return. For those not familiar, Pick 10 is a class creating feature that allows players to spend points to build a class, and it was present in notable titles like Black Ops 3, 4, and Infinite Warfare.
Other than that, Zombies is currently not planned, which is also a great thing since Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode was actually quite horrible. Get High mode is also starting to return, which features parkour, and players have to go through the map to earn rewards.

With regards to the 1990s-early 2000s setting, there are a lot of major events that took place at the time, and since Call of Duty is known to replicate real-life scenarios, we could be looking at something big for the series.
