The New Planet Kairos Setting Is Look Promising!

Story Highlight
  • First previews of Borderlands 4 are pretty positive, with the game introducing much-needed changes to freshen things.
  • The new setting of Kairos looks great, with the game featuring a darker plot this time around.
  • Character movement has been ramped up, including new crafting options and weapon manufacturers.

After a hiatus of almost 6 years, the Borderlands franchise is returning with a fourth mainline entry later this year. Being one of the most regarded FPS franchises of all time, Borderlands 4 has some great expectations to look forward to.

Fortunately, Gearbox Software may be able to live up to those expectations, as per the early previews of the game. Borderlands 4 seems to be bringing a much-needed fresh change to the open-world looter shooter formula that had frankly started to be considered somewhat stale.

Why it matters: So far, Gearbox Software has been under a lot of heat with Borderlands 4, but despite all those controversies, the actual game seems to be turning out quite well.

The first impressions of Borderlands 4 refer to the title as a sort of soft reboot, featuring several quality-of-life changes and altered core mechanics. For starters, this new entry has finally moved away from Pandora’s location to planet Kairos.

Planet Kairos will feature a darker and grittier tone and story, a significant departure from past entries. That said, don’t expect the sarcasm and the humour to be toned down in any way.

The Borderland games have been notorious for featuring a massive arsenal of weapons, with the third entry having a weapon count of almost a billion guns. For this new entry, expect more weapon manufacturers and a variety of new types of firearms.

Beyond that, movement has gotten a significant buff with double jumps, dashes in the air, grappling hook, swimming, and gliding through the air. These movement changes are sure to make the gameplay even more chaotic and enjoyable.

New crafting options have also been added, including health kits, which offer different advantages and disadvantages, allowing each player to find the best fit for their needs.
