- A new report reveals Sony is officially shutting down Bluepoint Games with 70 layoffs.
- The studio was acquired by the company after a successful Demon’s Souls remake.
- It was Sony’s long-term collaborator helping with multiple remakes and remasters.
Bluepoint Games was a long-term collaborator of Sony until they acquired the studio in 2021, after a successful Demon’s Souls Remake, and it officially became a first-party team. However, 5 years later, things have taken a turn for the worse.
A new report has revealed that Sony is officially closing Bluepoint Games, and it will lead to about 70 people losing their jobs. The company claims that the tough decision was made after a recent business review.
Why it matters: Bluepoint was mainly involved with modern remakes and remasters, and also assisted in the development of God of War: Ragnarok. This is a rather unfortunate move considering how well Sony is doing.

Notably, the studio hasn’t been involved in PlayStation games too much since Ragnarok. Yes, the number of exclusives was reduced, but still, it seems like it was all building up towards an eventual shutdown.
Bluepoint has had a rich and successful history with PlayStation, with remastering/remaking titles like Demon’s Souls, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, God of War Collection, and more.

Many even anticipated that the God of War Trilogy Remake might be handed to them. However, it doesn’t seem that the studio was in Sony’s plans, and many even claim that the company ruined the studio’s potential.
