PlayStation has dominated hardware numbers this generation, while Xbox has severely lagged. Amongst the most popular games on PS5 is the Microsoft-owned Call of Duty, and numbers show how popular it is with PlayStation users.
According to recent sales data, Black Ops 6 is the best-selling PS5 game of all time in the US in terms of Dollar Sales. The data covers sales beginning from the release of the console in 2020 up to this year, with many notable Sony games missing from the list.
Why it matters: Considering how Microsoft makes a huge chunk of its Call of Duty revenue from PlayStation, it’s no surprise that the company decided to go full on multiplatform for its future releases.
Circana has released a list of the best-selling games in the US in terms of Dollar Sales, and Black Ops 6 towers above all on the PS5. In fact, the top 10 list includes 3 different Call of Duty games from the last 3 years.
These include 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 and 2022’s Modern Warfare 2. PlayStation published games include Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the 2nd place, while the other two in the top 10 include Miles Morales and God of War: Ragnarok.
This not only shows how Call of Duty dominated on the PS5, but also how Sony has a huge problem when it comes to live service or multiplayer games, the biggest example of which is the disaster of Concord.
Destiny 2 has fallen quite a lot, even Helldivers 2 doesn’t make the list. However, the company would be hoping it can reignite the genre with next year’s Marathon and FairGames, which are currently in development.
