Doubts Of Xbox Series S Unable To Run The Game Debunked!

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth Wukong arrives on Xbox Series X|S consoles on 20 August, exactly a year after its PS5 release.
  • This suggests that the game had an exclusivity deal with PlayStation, contradicting the game director’s earlier claim that the Xbox Series S was responsible for the port’s delay.
  • Previous reports have also suggested a DLC expansion for sometime in 2025, so expect an announcement soon.

Being Steam’s game of the year for 2024, Black Myth Wukong was responsible for putting Chinese game developers on the map. Despite not being released on the Xbox consoles, Black Myth Wukong was a commercial success, topping 25 million sales as of January 2025.

Now, the game has officially been announced for the Xbox Series X|S consoles, releasing on 20 August 2025, for the platform, exactly a year after its release on the PS5

Why it matters: This news practically confirms that PlayStation had an exclusivity deal with the title and debunks the game director’s claims that the Xbox Series S is unable to handle the game.

Pre-orders for the game will start on 18 June, and all digital versions of the game will be 20% off for the first time ever. This announcement is quite unusual since the Xbox Games Showcase is just two days away.

Beyond that, reports suggest a DLC expansion for sometime in 2025, so expect an announcement soon at either the Summer Game Fest or Xbox Games Showcase.

Black Myth Wukong Only Cost $42.3 Million To Develop, Whereas Most AAA Games Cost Hundreds Of Millions

Regardless of whether the exclusivity deal was responsible for the delay, it will be exciting to see how the Xbox Series S handles the title. The PS5 Pro couldn’t maintain 60 FPS on the title, and the RTX 5090 wasn’t any better, maxing out at 24 FPS while running at 4 K without DLSS.

The developers had a year to develop the Xbox ports, so expect the game’s performance to be acceptable.
