- Astro Bot won the GOTY Award last year.
- While the game differs greatly from other first-party PlayStation titles like God of War Ragnarok, it offers a creative experience.
- The developer recently claimed that the game pushed PS5 processing power to its limits.
Astro Bot was among the most surprising hits of last year. The title received such a great reception that it dominated the year with 92 wins, including the Game of the Year award.
While the game is very different from other first-party PlayStation titles, Team Asobi still claims that Astro Bot pushed the PS5’s processing power to its limits.
Why it matters: The title was such a hit that even the director never thought the game would win the GOTY.
During a recent interview with Famitsu, Senior Gameplay Programmer Takumi Yoshida discussed the title’s development.
He stated that the team had pushed the PS5’s processing power to the limits of its capabilities.
We used the PS5’s processing power to its very limit, and besides the many jewels on screen, what is also impressive is the depiction of water.

He further stated that there were parts where the frame rates weren’t stable, but the team did not give up and continued working on it until the end.
We kept optimizing it right up until the very end.

Astro Bot proves that creativity is still alive, and not every game has to be highly visually rich or hundreds of hours big to be a great title. Therefore, developers should try developing smaller games more often and look for creativity to offer fans a distinctive experience.
