Assassin’s Creed Shadows Unplayable On Switch 2 As Players Suffer Repeated Crashes

AC Shadows On Switch 2 Is A Hit Or Miss For Many Players!

Story Highlight
  • Many players are experiencing repeated crashes on the Switch 2 port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
  • The crashes show no similar pattern between affected users, and no concrete fix has yet been found.
  • This has made the Switch 2 port nearly unplayable for these players.

Controversies aside, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been a technically sound experience across platforms for many players. While a weak narrative and stiff parkour mechanics were a cause for concern, the game was otherwise praised for fluid combat and gameplay.

However, the same can’t be said about Shadows’ new Switch 2 launch. Many players are experiencing repeated crashes, causing the port to become nearly unplayable for them.

Why it matters: Despite the AC Shadows’ Switch 2 port being recognized for beautiful visuals and gameplay quality, the experience is nearly unplayable due to abundant crashes for many players and critics alike.

As highlighted in one of the many Reddit posts about the issue, the affected AC Shadows players are experiencing multiple crashes in the span of minutes or hours. The worst part is that these crashes show no consistent pattern or frequency across players.

My game crashed 10 times in 20 minutes, I couldn’t play. And the worst part is we paid for it and there’s nothing we can do; Ubisoft doesn’t care.

Some players resolved the random barrage of crashes by restarting Switch 2 or downloading the game to internal memory instead of an SD card. Meanwhile, many others still experienced crashes despite having the game installed on internal memory.

The crashes seem most frequent when Shadows runs on the Switch 2’s docked mode; the game supposedly performs smoothly if players start it in handheld mode and dock it only after the save file has loaded.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
AC Shadows’ lead recently also defended the use of microtransactions in games.

Whether this is a memory leak issue or not remains to be confirmed. Hundreds of Assassin’s Creed Shadows players have congregated in multiple social media posts discussing crashes, confirming it is a widespread problem for the Switch 2 port.
