Assassin’s Creed Shadows Potentially Suffering From Poor Pre-Orders

Ubisoft Might Be Disappointed By AC Shadows!

Story Highlights
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows is reportedly facing very poor physical pre-order figures in the US.
  • Across nearly 900 stores, there have been only about 800 pre-orders for PS5 and Xbox consoles.
  • Previously, Ubisoft also refused to comment on the pre-order figures when asked by investors.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch in just a few months. Ubisoft’s upcoming game has been plagued with controversy, ranging from the protagonist to the historical accuracy. It also seems that Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ pre-orders are suffering due to these issues.

Why it matters: Ubisoft labelled this entry as one of the biggest games of 2024. However, due to all the controversy and the not-so-good gameplay showcases, fans seem skeptical about the release.

According to Craig Skistimas from the Side Scrollers Podcast, the game’s pre-order numbers don’t seem too impressive. He revealed that this information comes from a source who works in high-traffic game stores in one of the most populated areas of the US.

His source told him that across 900 stores, there have been only 800 pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows when looking at the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X consoles. This puts the game at less than 1 pre-order per store.

While we suggest taking this information with a grain of salt, Ubisoft was quite hesitant to talk about pre-order figures in the past. During the recent investor call, the company had no proper answer when CEO Yves Guillemot asked about pre-order figures for Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Following this response, many believe that numbers may not be what the company was anticipating.

Community Sentiment Around Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Mixed At Best

It should be noted that if these numbers are indeed true, they are for physical pre-orders. Most gamers nowadays prefer digital purchases, so digital pre-orders likely make up for the bulk of current spending on this Assassin’s Creed entry.

Still, the community sentiment around the game has been far from positive, which could ultimately affect the sales. Yves Guillemot expects Assassin’s Creed Shadows to be one of Ubisoft’s best-selling releases, but only time will tell if these expectations are met.
