Assassin’s Creed Red Reportedly Includes Two Playable Characters

Both Shinobi And Samurai Characters Included!

Assassin’s Creed Red will take the franchise to the fan-favorite Japanese setting and continue the trend of large-scale RPG games. Since the reveal, Assassin’s Creed’s stealthy roots have led to questions about the playstyle of the main character in the title.

Venturing into Japan allows Ubisoft to pick between shinobis, samurais, or both. While nothing has been confirmed, it seems like Ubisoft is going for the best of both worlds.

According to a report, Assassin’s Creed Red will feature two playable characters, a Samurai and a Shinobi.

This could mean that older Assassin’s Creed games fans will get their preferred playstyle, and newer RPG fans will feel right at home with Assassin’s Creed Red’s combat.

Traditionally, the samurai were high-class warriors related to nobility, while the shinobi had no such heritage and were contracted for specific tasks. The samurai often had a strict code of honor, but both roles were not mutually exclusive.

The game might allow Ubisoft an opportunity to explore this dynamic with the two characters while also exploring different combat styles that Assassin’s Creed has used in the past.

The report further states that the character featured in the initial reveal was the samurai, and the shinobi is yet to be revealed. It also claims that an African refugee familiar with the Creed plays the shinobi’s role.

This would not be the first time Ubisoft introduced multiple playable characters in an Assassin’s Creed title. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate featured the Frye siblings with different playstyles, while Assassin’s Creed Origins featured Bayek and his wife, Aya, for certain game sections.

The leak also hints stealth will again be a significant focus for Assassin’s Creed Red, with the report describing the mechanics as a Splinter Cell or Hitman-like approach

Not too long ago, Ghost of Tsushima delivered the Japanese samurai experience that many had wanted from Assassin’s Creed. The game’s main character was the samurai Jin Sakai who grew to utilize stealthier combat techniques throughout the course of the game.

As such, Ubisoft may have been inspired by Sucker Punch, and different characters could help the game live up to the inevitable comparisons to Ghost of Tsushima.

Assassin’s Creed Red is expected to target a Fall 2024 release window. While this may sound like a long wait, fans can look forward to the more traditional Assassin’s Creed Mirage set to release this year.
