Arc Raiders Hits 416K Conncurent Players on Steam — Gamers Think It’ll Win GOTY Like Overwatch

Could It Be The First Multiplayer Game Since Overwatch To Win GOTY?

Story Highlight
  • Arc Raiders has hit a new Steam peak of 416K concurrent users.
  • The game also surpassed Battlefield 6 on the charts this weekend.
  • Many fans online think the game should win or get nominated for Game of the Year.

After its remarkable start, Arc Raiders is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. The extraction shooter has already sold over 1.5 million copies on Steam and dethroned Battlefield 6 from the top of the platform’s charts.

The critical reception has also been overwhelmingly positive, with Arc Raiders becoming the highest-rated multiplayer game of all time on Opencritic. And, if Steam charts are any indication, this hype is unlikely to die down anytime soon.

Why it matters: An extraction shooter competing with heavyweights like Battlefield 6 and getting GOTY shoutouts is something the shooter genre needed.

Arc Raiders
Arc Raiders has once again hit a new player peak on Steam.

Arc Raiders hit a new peak of 416K concurrent players on Steam last night, smashing its previous record of 350K players. The title is displaying a trend similar to Helldivers 2 last year, which gained more hype after launch before reaching its 458K player peak.

Players online are also speculating about the GOTY potential of Arc Raiders, with many FPS fans saying the game at least deserves a nomination for its take on the extraction shooter genre.

The last multiplayer game to win in the Game of the Year category was Overwatch back in 2016, and some players think Arc Raiders should be the next game to achieve this landmark.

Besides its engrossing gameplay mechanics, the Embark Studios title has been big on fan service, giving players their hacked items back and also not following the trend of absurd skins set by Call of Duty.

It remains to be seen if the extraction shooter will be nominated for GOTY in 2025, as competition is very tight with titles like Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 ahead in the pecking order.

However, fans online certainly think Arc Raiders deserves it, and its rising concurrent player peak is an indication.
