AMD Ryzen 9000 US Prices Slashed By 12% Already

Hold For Further Price Drops!

Story Highlight
  • The Ryzen 9000 CPUs are quickly losing their value.
  • The Ryzen 5 9600 costs just $259.99 on eBay, making it nearly 10% cheaper than the MSRP.
  • The Ryzen 9 9900X has been discounted to just $439.99 on Micro Center.

AMD’s new Ryzen 9000 Zen 5 CPUs were launched last month, and we have already seen big price cuts. The prices have dropped around 12%, which makes the Ryzen 9000 cheaper than the outgoing Ryzen 7000 series.

The price drops indicate that the sales have not gone well, and now retailers are eager to get rid of the current stock to make space for the upcoming X3D versions.

Why it matters: These price cuts could help AMD recover from a poor launch. If prices continue to fall at this rate, the company could position its processors as affordable and budget-friendly.

We have seen a noticeable increase in performance and/or efficiency virtually every time AMD has released a new Ryzen generation.

Though higher energy efficiency is a key strength this time around, the Ryzen 9000 has let most people down. According to reports, the CPUs also operate worse on Windows 11 24H2, experiencing latency issues and crashes.

However, even though the Ryzen 9000 series is priced lower than the Ryzen 7000 at launch, some stores have already offered further discounts. The biggest price drop can be found on the Ryzen 9 9900X, which costs $439.99 at Micro Center.

At other stores such as Amazon, Best Buy or Newegg, it has been discounted by 10% and costs $449. The second biggest price drop we can see is for the Ryzen 5 9600X, which costs just $259.99 on eBay, making it 7.1% cheaper than MSRP.

At Micro Center, the Ryzen 7 9700X is currently priced at $349.99, and the Ryzen 9 9950X costs $619.99.

The price reductions are reasonable, but as the release date of the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs approaches, we should anticipate additional price cuts in September and October. The chips are still not recommended to PC builders until more pricing adjustments are made.
