While the competition for Game of the Year at The Game Awards is yet to begin, Alan Wake 2 has already been crowned the best game of 2023 by the Times.
Why it matters: This achievement is impressive since 2023 is far from a weak year for gaming. With titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2, Remedy’s latest horror adventure faced unrelenting competition to earn the top spot.
The Times’ list includes the usual favorites for Game of the Year. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4, and more are high up on the list, but Alan Wake 2 has prevailed.
While the game is currently considered an underdog in this race at The Game Awards, Remedy’s work continues to receive praise from the masses. Therefore, fans of this title are hopeful for a similar result at The Game Awards.

The addition of Saga Anderson is also a welcome change of pace, making this journey quite complex and distinct compared to other horror games.
Still, it remains to be seen if the game will be able to come out on top on the big stage of The Game Awards. This event is mere days away, and Alan Wake 2 is certainly one of the more promising Game of the Year contenders.
