- Marathon has lost more than 50% of its Steam players in just one day, falling to 33k concurrent users on the platform after peaking with 76K the previous day.
- The extraction shooter reached an all-time peak of 143K players during its server slam but has since continued to decline.
- The Bungie title also failed to reach the concurrent player peak of Arc Raider’s open beta.
With only a few days remaining in its launch, Marathon’s open beta weekend is currently underway across all platforms. Despite the negativity surrounding the title last year, the Bungie extraction shooter has managed to turn a few heads, even reaching the top 10 of Steam’s best-sellers ranking.
However, even after a lot of improvement following the initial playtests in 2025, Marathon is still struggling to maintain a healthy player count during the server slam weekend and has lost half of its players since yesterday.
Why it matters: Marathon needed a big push from its server slam to undo all the pre-launch negativity, but that doesn’t seem to be the case from the Steam numbers.

Marathon currently has 33K concurrent players on Steam, more than 50% lower than its 76K player count one day ago. The Bungie extraction shooter peaked at 143K concurrent users during the server slam three days ago, but has failed to retain players following the initial rush.
Furthermore, Marathon lost 47.5% of its player count on the second day and has been on a constant decline since then. The game has also failed to get close to Arc Raiders’ open beta peak, which reached almost 190k users during that period.
The reason for Marathon’s decline could also be that progress from the server slam does not carry over into the full release, meaning there is no incentive to keep playing. However, these numbers aren’t a major positive ahead of the Bungie title’s launch on March 5.

Even though reviews haven’t been as bad as Concord, like many predicted, players have criticized Marathon’s UI, calling it obstructive and hard to decipher.
