- Mindseye developers have published a letter calling out the studio for mistreatment.
- They say the studio miscommunicated with them, leading to around 300 layoffs.
- The studio didn’t trust the developers, which caused Mindseye to fail miserably.
Mindseye was one of the biggest disasters of this year. The game promised a great deal of potential, but it failed to deliver. The failure even led to mass layoffs, and now many former and current developers are speaking out against the studio.
Almost 100 developers who either used to work or are currently working at Build a Rocket Boy have accused the studio of mistreatment during the development of Mindseye. They also faced a serious crunch before the release.
Why it matters: The relation between the studio’s leadership and developers has always been rocky, with the CEO accusing them of being lazy, while the workers labelled the studio a terrible place to work.

In a letter published by the IWGB Game Workers, over 100 past and present developers at the Mindseye studio have called it out for mistreatment. They state that there was a serious lack of communication that led to the game’s failure.
The letter states that the studio didn’t listen to its workforce at all, leading to a creativity choke. The developers were forced to work 8 consecutive hours a day, constantly, for 4 months leading up to Mindseye.

Even the layoffs were handled poorly. Various developers were given wrong notices and grouped in the wrong teams, leading to poor performances resulting in layoffs. The letter commands the studio to compensate them.
In the end, they call out the co-CEO, saying, ‘This is how you treat your own?‘ and want a public apology. All this is really sad, as many were excited for Mindseye because it involved former Rockstar developers, but things turned out worse.
